This was one of the more challenging projects I have tackled. This image originally began as a photograph of a Middle Eastern tapestry, I believe, that was incorporated into Darioush Winery’s Darius II label. Darioush has a very unique style, and this particular label is no exception.

This vector image was created in a simple manner, but due to the complex nature of the bitmap image, it was no simple undertaking! It basically came down to tracing all of the black, green, and gold outlines in the image, and ignoring the color fills. When these traced outlines are placed over the background layer, the resulting image is then reversed for etching. The etching process then creates the black portions of the image as the recessed areas of the bottle, and the white portions are raised above the background. The colors are then filled in, and the raised outlines are then painted to match.

This was a fun project done for Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, as a gift to the winner of the 2009 NASCAR Daytona 500. As you can see, the vector image that I traced from the bitmap image turned out pretty true to the original. (The vector version being the one on top).

This image was made by recreating each color of the logo as a separate layer, and then arranging those layers in the correct order. For example, the gray area behind the blue portion of the logo was one layer, with the blue portion being another layer on top of the gray layer. Then another gray layer on top of that to form the triangle around the date, followed by a white layer, and finally topped off with the blue date as the last layer.

Below is an image of Steve Page, of Infineon Raceway presenting the etched bottle to the race winner, Matt Kenseth.

This was a tough job, in that the only “artwork” the customer could supply me with was a photograph of a previously etched bottle. With this project, I had to take into account the skewed image, and translate it into a flat image. I’m sure this had the effect of creating minor differences in the art, but nothing that would drastically alter the image.

This project began by drawing the outline/background portion of the image, and then recreating the elements of the snowman as a layer above it. Certain aspects of this proved challenging, due to the low resolution of the original image, as well as the previously mentioned skewing caused by the angle the photograph was taken at. Nonetheless, I’m happy with how this project turned out, and so was the customer, and in the end, that’s all that matters!

This was a pretty simple job that was done for a Stanford alumni who wanted some wine glasses etched with the logo. This project began by scanning the logo from a piece of letterhead, and then tracing the resulting bitmap into the vector image seen on the left. This was done by creating the “S” using series of three concentric layers, all maintaining the general dimensions of the layer below it. After that, the tree was created, and placed on the top layer.

A pretty simple project, but I think it turned out pretty true to the original.
